Open Grants Closing Soon in 2026

Government grant rounds open and close on fixed schedules — and missing a close date by even one day means waiting for the next round, which may be months away or may not open again at all. This page lists grants currently accepting applications with known deadlines, drawn from our live database.

Last updated: 21 April 2026

Why deadlines matter more than most people realise

Unlike a bank loan application you can submit any time, most competitive grant programs have a fixed application window — often 4–12 weeks. When the window closes, that's it. Even a complete, fundable application submitted one minute late will be rejected.

Some programs also have a first-come-first-served element: once the allocated pool of funding is committed, the round closes early. This is common for rebate programs and voucher schemes where the government commits a fixed total budget.

The practical implication: when you identify a grant that's a good fit, start the application immediately. Don't wait until the week before close — the supporting documents alone (financial statements, quotes, letters of support) take time to gather.

How to stay ahead of closing dates

The most reliable way to track grant deadlines is to use a combination of approaches:

Bookmark the source portals. GrantConnect (grants.gov.au) for Commonwealth programs, and your state's business portal for state programs. New rounds are posted here first.

Subscribe to email updates. Most Commonwealth agencies and state business departments have email newsletters that announce new grant rounds. Five minutes of subscription setup can save hours of searching.

Work backwards from your project timeline. If you know you need funding for a project starting in August, identify relevant grants now and check when they're likely to open. Many programs operate on annual cycles and open at the same time each year.

Use our finder with the "Open" status filter. Our database is updated regularly and shows you which programs are currently accepting applications.

What to do when you find a grant closing soon

First, read the full grant guidelines — not just the summary. The full guidelines tell you the eligible expenditure types, assessment criteria, and exact documentation requirements. This usually takes 30–60 minutes but prevents wasted effort on ineligible applications.

Second, check whether you meet all eligibility criteria. Revenue thresholds, employee counts, ABN age, and geographic restrictions are the most common disqualifiers. If you're on the borderline, call the program manager — their contact details are in the guidelines — and ask directly.

Third, gather your documents before you start writing. Financial statements, quotes, and letters of support can take 1–2 weeks to obtain. If a grant closes in four weeks, start the documentation immediately.

Finally, if you decide to apply, calendar the deadline with a three-day buffer. Submit three days early — late applications are not accepted for any reason.

Programs that typically open in the first half of 2026

Several major programs follow predictable annual cycles. While specific round dates aren't guaranteed, these programs have historically opened in the first six months of the calendar year:

Export Market Development Grant (EMDG): Run by Austrade, this reimburses eligible export promotion expenses. Applications for the prior financial year typically open in July–August after the EOFY. Plan expenditure now if you're targeting next year's round.

Entrepreneurs' Programme (business.gov.au): Various elements including Business Growth and Accelerating Commercialisation open throughout the year. Growth grants for established businesses are often available year-round via nominated advisers.

NSW Manufacturing Grants: NSW has run competitive rounds for manufacturers in Q1 and Q3 in recent years. Check the NSW Department of Regional NSW website for announcements.

ARENA Clean Energy Grants: ARENA publishes a forward schedule of funding rounds. Their smaller innovation grants (under $1M) open more frequently than large infrastructure programs.
